The Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the Spanish Association of Business Angels Networks offer a Business Angels Network in Spain, so that all emerging companies or startups have points of contact when seeking funding.
Business angel is a well-known figure in the field of emerging businesses that comes from the United States.

They are people and entities that invest money in the initial phase of startups, or emerging companies, and act as mentors. In return, the startup offers them an equity stake. It is not only a question of offering help and financial support, but also of providing their experience, knowledge and contacts, acting as mentors for the project and monitoring it.

In the business objective of making a profit by trusting and investing in the startup, it is logically implicit to help entrepreneurs to make their business project a success. For startups, it can also be important to go hand in hand with a business angel with a solid reputation in the business world.

Neither the term nor its work is new. In 2008, AEBAN, the Spanish Association of Business Angels Networks, was created with the mission of promoting the activity of networks, groups and clubs of investors, as well as those agents that carry out private investment in initial stages, such as family offices, investment companies and funds, accelerators, incubators and venture builders, equity crowdfunding platforms and companies that carry out corporate venturing activities.

According to AEBAN, most of the business angels in Spain are senior managers, founders or CEOs of consolidated companies. In recent years, the weight of startup founders, which had grown in previous years, has been reduced. Technology, health, banking and finance continue to be the sectors from which investors come.

The Association is currently preparing the report summarizing the activity for 2023. Thus, the latest data they have published on business angels reflected that 79% invested in startups in their own portfolio. Almost two thirds of those surveyed invest throughout the country, not only in their closest local area, and the proportion of those who are active internationally is consolidated at around 27%.
