There are three types of schools in Spain: public schools, supported with public funds, which do not imply a cost for the students; private schools, internally financed and which have a high cost; and subsidized schools, which receive a part of the money from the State and another part internally, which implies a medium cost.
Access to public schools is done through the centers themselves or through the virtual secretariat of the Consejería de Desarrollo Educativo y Formación Profesional (Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training).
If there are more applicants than vacancies available, different criteria are applied to assign points (such as proximity to the family home or if the student belongs to a single-parent or large family).
